Pragmatic Language
Scottsdale / Phoenix / Virtual
Service Description
Pragmatic language refers to the social use of language—how we use words, tone, and body language to communicate effectively in different situations. It involves skills like taking turns in conversation, staying on topic, understanding and using nonverbal cues, interpreting humor or sarcasm, and adjusting language based on the listener or setting. Difficulties with pragmatic language may make it difficult to have successful social interactions, as individuals may struggle with understanding social rules or interpreting others’ intentions. Speech therapy targeting pragmatic language helps improve these social communication skills to interact and communicate effectively.
