Feeding
Service Description
Feeding therapy conducted by a speech-language pathologist (SLP) focuses on helping individuals who have difficulties with eating and swallowing, which can affect their nutrition, safety, and overall health. These challenges may include problems with chewing, coordinating the muscles needed to swallow safely, or managing textures and temperatures of different foods. SLPs assess the underlying causes of feeding and swallowing difficulties, such as muscle weakness, sensory sensitivities, or medical conditions, and develop personalized treatment plans to improve oral motor skills and safe swallowing techniques. Feeding therapy is commonly used with children who have developmental delays, medical conditions, or sensory processing issues, as well as adults recovering from strokes, surgeries, or neurological disorders. The goal is to help individuals eat and drink safely and comfortably, promoting better health and quality of life.
